Dental Hygiene – Scale & Polish
Maintaining good dental hygiene with regular visits to our Dental Hygienist ensures that dental plaque and tartar are cleaned thoroughly from the teeth in order to prevent cavities, gingivitis, and gum disease. Severe gum disease causes at least one-third of adult tooth loss.
Dentists recommend that teeth be cleaned by a Dental Hygienist at least twice per year.
Dental Scale & Polish cleanings involve removing the plaque and tartar deposits from the teeth and gums. Plaque is a mixture of food, bacteria and bacterial waste products that builds up on your teeth after eating. If plaque is not removed it hardens to form tartar.
The purpose of the cleaning and polishing is basically to leave the surfaces of the teeth clean and smooth so that bacteria are unable to stick to them and you have a better chance of keeping the teeth clean during your regular home care, leaving your teeth feeling very smooth and clean.
